A flat spur geared DC motor, also known as a pancake motor, is a type of DC motor that has a flat, disc-shaped form factor. The motor consists of a rotor and a stator, with the rotor being mounted on the output shaft and the stator being mounted around the rotor.
The gear mechanism in a flat spur geared DC motor is similar to that in a traditional spur geared DC motor. A cylindrical spur gear is mounted on the output shaft of the motor and meshes with teeth on a larger gear wheel. This gear wheel is mounted on the another small shaft, which is stationary and parallel to the motor shaft. The speed is reduced and torque is raised stage by stage in this sort of gear transmission until output shaft of flat gearbox.
The flat shape of the motor allows it to be used in applications where space is limited, such as in robotics, automation, and medical devices. The low profile design also makes it easier to integrate into compact systems and equipment.
